Jesus said "Apart from me you can do nothing"

Besom received an urgent request for a washing machine for a young mum with three young children who were in desperate need. We had a Zanussi washing machine but this had already been allocated to another client.

At the weekly Besom meeting the team decided to pray and fast.

Later the Besom mobile phone rang. A woman called Sheila had been trying to contact us as she was clearing a relative's house in Oxshott. She had many items to offer including a washing machine.

On Saturday with great enthusiasm six people, including two new volunteers, set off in the snow to Oxshott.

We met friendly people who wanted Besom to have first choice of items in the house. The Besom van and car where filled and the washing machine was a top of the range Miele washer dryer in very good condition.

Later that day we arrived in Banstead. It took four men and a trolley to pull and push the Miele across a snow covered path and up a steep flight of stairs to the first floor flat.

We noticed that the isolation valve for the cold water pipe was leaking and that the electric socket was broken and dangerous. A visit to a local DIY store was needed. A new electric socket was installed and the joint repaired with PTFE tape. But! it still leaked.

Defeated, a  silent prayer "Jesus help us", and within seconds another valve was tightened and the leak stopped. More frustration trying to connect the waste pipe but at last the machine was working and ready to do the washing.

It was Jesus who provided the washing machine, delivered it and installed it. Apart from him we would have achieved nothing.  He wants us to depend entirely on him.

We had spent a long time talking, listening and witnessing to a young mum and her three children who needed help and people to show they cared. The mum prayed Jesus into her life and we hugged her as we left.

That was Jesus's plan.

"I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever lives in Me and I in him bears much (abundant) fruit. However, apart from Me. [cut off from vital union with Me] you can do nothing."

                                                                                                     (JOHN 15:5) (Amplified version)

If you would like to help, and witness God's work we would love to hear from you.
