Help for the Community

Special Needs

Kingfishers

Kingfishers, is a group for adults with learning difficulties which meets at St. George’s 11am Sunday service. The weekly meetings include Christian teaching, sharing news/concerns, some life skills training, worship and prayer.
During August ten Kingfishers enjoyed a holiday week together. There was teaching on a Christian theme as well as a range of activities which supported the young people in developing healthy eating habits, life skills and self-confidence. Following positive feedback we will be running a similar week in August 2013

Care in the Community home

In the parish there are 9 care homes for adults with learning difficulties and 1 home for those recovering from mental illness. Over the past year we have visited and begun to develop a relationship with residents, staff and managers. Our aim is to see how we can best support them as a church community. We regularly inform them about church events. A new Sunday group has been created called Skylarks, this meets on the fourth Sunday of the month in the hall at St. George's at 11am.
