Series: 1 Peter: “Living Faith Out”
Reading: 1 Peter 1:13-2:3 “Called to be holy”

We’ve seen in 1 Peter 1:1-12 that God has called us to be his followers. In Him we have eternal life and an inheritance that can’t “perish, spoil or fade”. Because of this amazing grace we are “filled with an inexplicable and glorious joy”. Concerning this Peter says that we are receiving the “salvation of our souls”, this means that we are already living that salvation and eternal life with God today. All of this is great news, we respond with a genuine faith that is “of great worth than gold”.
We therefore have a living hope! This is the foundation of our lives. It is the great news that God has prepared for us.
Ice breaker
1 – Have you ever received a special gift? What was it? How did that make you feel?
Please read 1 Peter 1:13-2:3
2 - After reading the passage, what do you think is the main idea that Peter is trying to share with us?
Please read vs 1:13-16
3 - What do you think that he means by “minds that are alert and full sober”?
4 - What is this “hope” based on? (v.13)
5 – What does it mean to be holy?
(Hint: Even though we are called to live holy lives, we aren’t “holy” through our works, i.e. if we sin more or less, but through Jesus’ death on the cross and his grace towards us)
6 – What is the difference between being holy and being “holy in all you do”?
(Hint: The main difference is that, as seen in the question above, we are made holy by God through Jesus. While being “holy in all you do” has to do with our life reflecting the holiness that we have received from God. It is a tough question, but it is worth having a chat about it and knowing the difference between this.)

7 – Do you consider a life with God “empty”? (vs. 18)
8 – What is Peter trying to highlight about our redemption in vs. 18-21?
(Hint: Jesus’ death was a high price that God paid to have a relationship with us!)
Please read 1:22-2:3
9 - What is the obvious response to God’s grace towards us?
10 - What does he mean by our “glory” on v. 24?
11 – If “the word of the Lord endures for ever” v.25, how do we respond to it?
12 - How can we do to “grow up” (v. 2:2)?
The passage’s main theme is that our lives should reflect the faith that we have. We are called “obedient children” (1:14), we are “obeying the truth” (1:22) because we “have tasted that the Lord is good” (2:3).
13 – What do you think it means to be obedient to God?
14 – How good are we at being obedient?
15 – What could we do to be more obedient?
(Hints: Know what God expects from us by studying the Bible, get together with other Christians to encourage each other in this task, ask for God’s help and obviously set it as a priority in life and try hard!)
Action:
Please think of ideas that could help you be more obedient to God. How could you respond to God’s grace in a better way? It would be good to finish praying that God will guide and help us in this difficult task.
