ALDAG - Ashtead Learning Difficulties Action Group
|
 Taking its inspiration from the young people themselves, ALDAG aims to support and encourage people with learning difficulties to achieve fulfilling lives within their local community.
Conquerors Club
We run a fortnightly club for young adults with the aims of extending social opportunities, providing a social community for adults with a learning disability and supporting the development and maintenance of friendship groups. Our full calendar of events focuses on FUN and includes activities such as craft sessions, BBQ, pub nights, music sessions with local bands, impromptu drama, Valentine’s fish and chip supper, theatre trips and our Christmas party disco.
Activities for teens and twenties
A small group of parents with children in their teens or twenties living locally met with 4 trustees to explore what they would like for their young people: a programme of activities using community facilities was quickly established.
Small Friendship Groups
Extending social opportunities for members includes developing friendships for people who may find larger groups more challenging. The groups are based on common interests using
community facilities such as bowling or the cinema and include both evening and weekend activities.

Short Holidays
We aim to provide a ‘living away’ from home experience for members and to have a fun holiday with friends. Our short holidays can range from one night away to one week and are based on small friendship groups. ALDAG provides support based on a 2:1 basis. In exceptional cases we will fund additional 1:1 support.
Cafe ALDAG
Cafe ALDAG is situated in St. George’s Christian Centre and aims to provide fulfilling long and short term work experience for twelve adults with a learning disability by developing catering skills and in doing so to provide a valued service to the church community and local people. The young people learn a variety of work skills supported by a paid manager and a team of volunteers.
Robins (ALDAG Gardening Team)
Every Friday a group of four young people supported by a paid manager and occasional volunteers meet to garden at our allotment where we grow flowers and vegetables for Café ALDAG. We also undertake garden maintenance around St. George’s Christian Centre, for a local special school and in addition do some paid work for individuals who need help to keep their garden in order! During inclement weather we enjoy making nature related items such as willow weaving or making bird feeders.
